How this Bitcoin node tracker works

This dashboard estimates the mix of publicly reachable Bitcoin Core and Bitcoin Knots nodes found by Shodan. It groups advertised client versions, compares implementation share, and maps the countries associated with observed public IP addresses.

It is not a census of the entire Bitcoin network. Nodes behind Tor, NAT, firewalls, VPNs, or private networks may not be visible, and geolocation reflects an IP address rather than a node operator's identity. Treat the totals as a reproducible public-node sample and use the visible update timestamp when citing the data.

Note: This tracks publicly reachable Bitcoin nodes discovered by Shodan. Many nodes run behind NAT, Tor, or firewalls — the true network is larger than shown. Core includes all Satoshi-based clients; Knots is Luke Dashjr's fork with additional features.
